Korean Saju 四柱 — an East Asian birth chart, calculated in your browser

Enter a birth date, time and time zone. This site works out the four pillars and the five-element counts, and shows every calendar rule it used to get there: the solar term boundary, the standard-time offset in force at that date and place, and the true solar time rule.

What this site actually does

Three things, and nothing else in the first release.

1. It shows its work

Every chart comes with the calendar rules behind it: which solar term boundary decided the month pillar, which standard-time offset applied at that date and place, and which day-boundary rule was used around 23:00.

2. The input stays on the device

Birth date, time and time zone are processed by the page in your browser. There is no account, no server request that carries the input, and no result URL that could contain it.

3. Rules that are not settled are named, not hidden

Three rules change what a chart says and are not decided by the data. A default is set for each, every chart names the three it used, and the form lets you change them. Where a value cannot be decided at all, the pillar is left uncalculated rather than filled in.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Enter a date

Date of birth, time of birth if it is known, and the time zone that applied at the place of birth.

  2. Step 2: Read the four pillars

Year, month, day and hour, each written as one heavenly stem and one earthly branch.

  3. Step 3: Check the rules

The table under the chart prints every rule that produced it, including the ones that are still unset.

Questions

Do I need to know my birth time?
No. If the birth time is left blank, the hour pillar is not calculated and no default value is put in its place. The other three pillars are unaffected.
Where does my birth data go?
It is processed by the page in your browser. There is no account, no server request that carries the input, and no result URL that could contain it.
Does this tell me what will happen?
No. These pages describe how the characters in a chart are produced, and what the Myeongri tradition has written about those characters.
